Welcome and thanks for
taking the time to visit the Bethlehem Farm Web site. Bethlehem Farm
is located in the Northwest section of Florida known as the
Panhandle, in the very small Bethlehem community of Holmes County.
We are just 10 miles North of interstate I-10 between Highway 79 and
Highway 2.
We been breeding
registered Katahdin Hair Sheep since 2005. Our goal at Bethlehem
Farm is to raise the best quality Katahdin Hair Sheep possible,
selling only what we ourselves would keep for breeding. All our
breeding stock and lambs are cordon 171 genotyped RR or QR, health
records are kept on all lambs and breeding stock. We want to
contribute to the Katahdin Hair Sheep breed that we believe in by
working to improve our operation through purchasing and breeding
only genetically superior stock with diversified bloodlines.
The
Katahdin hair sheep is a unique breed of sheep developed to
efficiently and economically produce MEAT. Katahdins have been a
recognized breed since the 1950’s. Katahdins are in very high
demand due to their qualities of very low maintenance and very high
performance. They are natural good mothers, producing plenty of milk
for raising their lambs, very fertile, very high parasite tolerant
and gentle, making them very easy to work with. They are
non-seasonal breeders, cold/hot climate tolerant, and all-day
grazers. Katahdins normally produce twins or triplets and as a bonus
they have a hair coat that sheds in the Spring so they require no
shearing.
Our breeding stock
are inspected and have A or AA coats. We are very proud of
our Katahdin hair sheep flock at Bethlehem Farm which we have
purchased from longtime well known
Katahdin breeders. We are members in good
standing with Katahdin Hair Sheep International (KHSI)
www.khsi.com
, Southcentral Katahdin Hair Sheep Association (SCKA)
www.hair-sheep.com
and Meat Sheep Alliance of Florida.(MSA)
www.msasheep.com
. We are enrolled in the USDA Scrapie Flock Certification Program
(voluntary SFCP). There is always an open door invite at
Bethlehem Farm, for anyone to stop by and look at what we are doing
and talk.
